Ozarks African-American History presentation: Fr. Moses Berry leads an interactive presentation on Ozarks African-American history Wednesday., Feb. 19, 6 p.m. in the Christ Church parish hall. Fr. Moses is the founder and pastor of Theotokos “Unexpected Joy” Orthodox Church in Ash Grove, Mo., and for many years operated the Ozarks Afro-American Heritage Museum in Ash Grove. He is a descendent of Daniel Boone, as well as of slaves brought to Ash Grove by Boone’s son, Nathan. After living many years in St. Louis and San Francisco, Fr. Moses returned to Ash Grove in 1998 to take over his family’s Century Farm, including a cemetery for “Slaves, Paupers and Indians.” Moses will talk about family history and share artifacts dating from before the Civil War. The presentation is designed for all ages: children through adults, and dinner will be served.
