UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENTS
Calling all young adults (your definition)! Please join us October 25th for a 7:30 p.m. showing of _The Rocky Horror Show_ at the Lightroom Lounge in Martha’s Vineyard (located 215 W Olive St. Springfield, MO). We are asking that anyone joining please sign up on the blue Fellowship bulletin board across from the office. Each person is responsible for paying $12.50 to cover half the ticket price. You can pay by cash or by check, made payable to Christ Episcopal Church. We have a limited number of tickets, so it’s first-come-first-serve. Invite a friend!
A Christ Church Women’s Retreat with Bishop Diane Bruce is planned for Saturday, October 26th from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the parish hall. All women of the parish are invited to attend along with your friends. The cost is $20 to cover lunch and materials. The Rev. Ryan Williams will be installed as the rector of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Joplin on Sunday, October 28th at 4:00 p.m. Fr. Williams served with us as a curate at Christ Church throughout 2023. Congrats, Fr. Ryan!
On November 2nd, the Episcopal Church will officially welcome the Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe as its 28th presiding bishop with a smaller, simpler investiture service aimed at reducing carbon footprint and increasing churchwide virtual participation. A prelude featuring a “roll call” of dioceses starts at 8:30 a.m. CST. The service itself starts at 10 a.m. CST. To view the livestream on the event page, please Click Here. The service will also be streamed to The Episcopal Church’s Facebook page, and a recording will be posted and distributed after the service. We invite you to pray for guidance for our church and our new presiding bishop as he leads us in envisioning the reign of God in our midst in this historic and joyful season.
If you have not attended any of the fabulous garden guild parties at Christ Church, you are missing out! Please join us to enjoy a fall evening on Saturday, November 2, at 4:30 p.m. in the garden. Be prepared for a special fall cocktail created by our own Ms. Cardwell, and of course plenty of hors d’oeuvres to feed us all. Sign up sheets are on bulletin board B across from the office.
Join us for a special All Saints’ Choral Evensong on Sunday, November 3rd, at 6pm, led by the St. Gregory Choir. Featuring the beautiful music of Charles Stanford, Joanna Forbes L’Estrange, and others, this sacred service offers a meaningful opportunity to find comfort as we remember and mourn those who are now saints before us. Free and open to the public, it’s a peaceful space for reflection and worship. All are welcome!
The Second Sunday Brunch for November will be November 10th. We encourage you to join in the parish hall after the 10 a.m. service for food and fellowship. If you would like to bring a fruit, casserole, or other brunch dish to share please contact Kathy Sheppard at kathysheppard1950@gmail.com.
It’s time to rally around the kids at Bissett School and bring out the tennis shoe brigade! CEC has provided new shoes and socks to Bissett children for about 12 years. OneSolePurpose provides the tennis shoes which we are able to buy for $30.00 a pair. Thursday, November 14th we will need 12-14 volunteers to sign children in, measure their feet, and pass shoes out to each child. If you are able to help please contact Kathy Sheppard. Arrive at Bissett (located 3014 W. Calhoun) at 8:15 a.m. We should be finished by 11:00 a.m. If you can work 2 or 3 hours that would be helpful. Come be a part of this happy morning and be able to see the smiles on each child’s face as they walk out with new shoes/socks that fit. If you are writing a check, please make it payable to Christ Church and put “Bisset tennis shoes” in the memo line. Volunteer sign-ups are on both bulletins in the church hallway. Thank you for making this day a success!
